Stimmung started as a commission by the Laing Gallery, Newcastle for Notes on a Return, 2009. The work takes Bruce Mclean’s 1986 performance ‘Good Violence and Physical Manners’ as its starting point, interweaving ideas from Stockhausen’s famous 1968 work ‘Stimmung’, for six vocalists and six microphones. The work culminated in a performance at the gallery with local singers from St Jude’s Church Choir.
